Websites on what you can do to improve your house to save money and reduce CO2 emissions

There is the energy saving trust with masses of accessible information and links:

www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/

This is a summary of good principles on how to maintain and improve your house’s environmental impact:

www.aecb.net/factsheet.php

and this one goes through some of the most effective things you can do to your house to save CO2:

And this has a neat summary of the cost savings for each measure taken and the corresponding reduction in CO2 as a result:

And this newspaper article has many ideas of what you could do with your house to improve its carbon footprint:

Technical stuff

I would suggest searching the following for discussion on any green building topic, some of it quite detailed and technical:

www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/

There is also this great website which suggests and compares different materials and looks at their overall eco rating:

Building supplies
Apart from the many eco specialist suppliers, and sources for recycled materials (eg architectural salvage merchant in Burgess Hill, the recycled wood outlet in Brighton), there are two chains worth looking at:

B and Q are probably the greenest of the big chains and are advertising themselves as offering
alternative eco materials and sustainably sourced timber.  I think they are better than some.

Covers, who operate in the south, have built an eco centre at Chichester and have plans to provide similar displays at some other stores www.covers.biz/details.asp?ID=251

Transition Towns

And last but not least, I must mention Transition Towns and all the people who are trying to find positive solutions to the challenges of climate change and peak oil.  Do join in, everyone is welcome!
